The Center for Cooperation with Patrons and Alumni organized the exhibition “Women and War: Historical Contexts and Contemporary Challenges.”

On February 24, 2026, marking the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion, the Center for Cooperation with Patrons and Alumni of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv presented the exhibition “Women and War: Historical Contexts and Contemporary Challenges,” dedicated to the role of women in the struggle for Ukraine’s independence.

The presentation was moderated by Professor Iryna Kiyanka, Head of the University’s Center for Cooperation with Patrons and Alumni. According to her, the exhibition aims to portray the image of women in wartime beyond traditional gender perceptions and societal stereotypes. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale offensive, Ukrainian women and girls, along with their foreign sisters, have become full-fledged participants in the struggle for Ukraine—on the front lines, in hospitals and volunteer штабs, as part of evacuation crews, and among war correspondents.

The exhibition “Women and War: Historical Contexts and Contemporary Challenges” features portraits of fifteen servicewomen, combat medics, and volunteers, including citizens of other countries who lost their lives for Ukraine while carrying out their duties.
